Who Should Attend?

The UC Entrepreneurship Academy is a one-week business development intensive designed for science and engineering PhD students, postdocs, and research faculty who want to learn to:

  • commercialize their research,
  • explore business development before heading into
    a career in industry,
  • take the first steps toward launching a new venture.

This year's academy will be held September 14 - 18, 2009 at UC Davis.

The Academy

The one-week intensive provides researchers with the knowledge and networks that enable scientists and engineers to effectively move their research out of the lab and into the world. 

Through a combination of lectures, exercises and team projects, participants gain the ability to recognize, develop and communicate potential opportunities arising from their research. The academy also provides participants with the social networks linking them to the entrepreneurial community of investors and industry.

Participating students learn:

  • Dynamics of innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Evaluating technology/market opportunities
  • Pursuing IP patenting and licensing strategies
  • Building the team
  • Modeling finance and investment strategies

How to Apply

Submit UC Entrepreneurship Academy application before August 15, 2009. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

Enrollment and Tuition

  • The workshop is open to graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and faculty in science and engineering.
  • First priority given to University of California applicants.
  • Open to applicants from any university.

Cost is $150 for the course and materials. Payment due upon acceptance to the program. This does NOT include lodging.

Entrepreneur's Rate

On a space available basis, we offer the opportunity for early-stage entrepreneurs to participate in the program.

  • $750 rate
  • This does not include lodging

Location

The UC Entrepreneurship Academy will be held at the ARC at UC Davis.

Lodging

Lodging is the responsibility of the students. Lodging approximately $600 (based on hotels below).

Dining

Breakfast and lunch provided Monday - Friday.

Netowrking dinner scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, 2009.

Transportation
