The Food and Health Entrepreneurship Academy is a four-day intensive designed for science and engineering upperdivision undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty working on research in the fields of nutrition, food science, food technology, viticulture and enology, plant science, biochemistry, nutritional genomics and fields relevant to foods for health.

The Academy

The four-day intensive academy provides participants with focused lectures, practical exercises, networking sessions, and hands-on experiences designed to give them the knowledge, skills, and networks to explore how their research can make broader impact in industry, the marketplace, and the world.

The academy is taught by university faculty, venture capitalists, angel investors, industry executives, attorneys and entrepreneurs.

Why you should attend:

  • Build a business skill set for a career in industry

  • Evaluate market and technology opportunities

  • Network with over 40 industry and investment experts

  • Spend the week developing a slide deck pitch presentation about your idea.

The academy combines seminars and networking sessions in an innovative format to help you learn how to evaluate your research for commercial opportunities or prepare for a career in industry.

Lorna, BD FellowThe academy made me think outside of my laboratory comfort zones. Scientists are inherently innovative, and this is a good way to let the scientists out of their shells and look at their work from an entrepreneurial view.—M. Lorna de Leoz, doctoral candidate, University of California, Davis, FHEA10 and Business Development Fellow 2011

Move your research out of the laboratory and into the world!
