Peter Tittman grew up in rural Northern California where industrial timber has dominated the landscape and the economy since the area's settlement. He attended a high school of 250 students in the small town of Miranda then completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz in Environmental Studies. Subsequently, Peter worked for the California Coastal Commission in San Francisco and the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems in Santa Cruz. After a year spent traveling in Asia, Peter began his PhD in Geography at UC Davis.
Peter's interests are in the application of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) modeling to forestry for biomass energy production and small dimension timber utilization. He is especially interested in the commercial application of this suite of technologies to the energy industry in California. Peter is interested in the sustainable economic and social revitalization of rural, natural resources dependent communities in California.
