Chemistry

Lorna is a doctoral candidate in Chemistry at the University of California at Davis.  Her research focuses on using mass spectrometry for health and nutrition research.  She is particularly interested in understanding the role of human milk oligosaccharides in infants and discovering oligosaccharide biomarkers for cancer. 

She and her teammates won the People’s Choice Award at the UCD Big Bang Competition 2010.  Their company, Pedianostics, offers a platform technology to develop rapid, non-invasive, innovative and accurate diagnostic tests to monitor diseases in children, enabling earlier, improved and personalized treatment.

Prior to studying at UC Davis, Lorna taught Chemistry at Ateneo and worked in the R&D division of the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry.  She holds a masters in Chemistry and bachelors in Computer Engineering and Chemistry from Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.
